Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on laatia rakennusselostus päreiden vaihdosta.
Windmills are rare in Finland and them need special attention in research. This thesis introduces the history of windmills, their cultural-historical value and construction method. The construction case study focuses on the Samppalinna windmill in Turku and its current roof repair. The main roof of the mill needs to be renewed and this work explores how the work should be completed so that the appearance and value of that windmill is preserved. The aim of this thesis was to prepare a construction report on the replacement of shingles. The thesis was commissioned by Kaarea Oy.
The research was based on the source of the Finnish heritage agency and the building information database. Based on these, I got acquainted with the needs of the Museum Centre of Turku and I was in contact with the contractor and the site’s maintenance engineer.
As a result of this thesis, a building report was created. The building report had to be approved before the start of the renovation work at the Museum Centre of Turku, because the Samppalinna windmill is a protected building.
In conclusion, every windmill in Finland is unique and there is no right or wrong way to repair it. The most important point in repair is to repair according to the old model and appreciaiting the cultural-historical value. The replacement of the shingles at the Samppalinna windmill was successful according to the building report, with the exception of few minor changes. The success of the work required co-operation with contractor, maintenance engineer and Museum Centre of Turku.
