Tiivistelmä
This study was conducted to compare the integration pathways of the male Pakistani immigrants who arrived in Finland in two different residence permit categories. The research process started with the formulation of the two research questions around the theme of the main topic. To find the answers to these questions, four male Pakistani immigrants were interviewed. These immigrants represented the pathways of the two different residence permits. The integration journeys of these immigrants were explored, and they were in the process inquired about the efficacy of the Finnish integration plan.
In order to find answer to the research questions, the term integration was first defined. As the thesis proceeded further, a theoretical framework was established, which helped in providing the means of defining the integration process with the help of open-ended questions. Qualitative research with semi structured interview questions was opted as the choice of research methodology as this suited the nature of this research. The interview data was analyzed, coded and categorized in accordance with the predefined dimensions of integration. The interviewees were reassured about the ethical obligations and were ensured about keeping the anonymity of their identity.
The interviewees talked about their journeys in detail. This provided enough data to analyze and present the results with the help of the theoretical framework. The results were presented, and the conclusions were drawn. It was found that the immigrants with work-based residence permit had more support and a better platform throughout their integration journey in Finland.
