Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyössä tarkasteltiin sovelluskehitysprosessia, jossa Vuzix M4000-älylasien käytettävyyden toteamiseksi toteutettiin sarja ratkaisuja, jotka yhdessä mahdollistivat prosessien ohjaamisen älylaseilla näytettävien ohjeiden avulla. Tuotettujen ratkaisujen käytettävyyttä verrattiin Vuzix Remote Assistin ja Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guidesin käytettävyyteen. Työ tehtiin Savonia-ammattikorkeakoulun koordinoimalle Future Technologies in Education -hankkeelle.
Työssä toteutettiin Android-sovellus ohjeiden näyttämiseksi sekä React-websovellus ohjeiden luomiseksi. Luodut ohjeet tallennettiin MongoDB Atlas-pilvipalveluun. Tietokannan ja sovellusten välisen kommunikaation mahdollistamiseksi työssä toteutettiin Node.js-ohjelmointirajapinta. Ratkaisujen muodostaman kokonaisuuden avulla oli mahdollista tuottaa teksteistä ja kuvista koostuvia ohjeita älylaseilla näytettäväksi.
Työn ratkaisukokonaisuuden ja suoritetun sovellusvertailun avulla älylasien todettiin kärsivän useista niille luontaisista käytettävyyden ongelmista. Nämä käytettävyyden ongelmat rajoittavat kaikkea toimintaa älylaseilla. Ongelmien läsnäolo estää älylasien käytön suosittamisen prosessinhallinnan tehtävissä ja työn jatkokehityksen puoltamisen. The objective of this thesis was to determine the usability of Vuzix M4000 smart glasses as a tool for process control. To this end, a group of solutions was implemented with which predefined processes could be directed via guides shown on the smart glasses. The user experiences of the implemented solutions were compared with those of Vuzix Remote Assist and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides. This thesis was commissioned by the Future Technologies in Education Project of Savonia University of Applied Sciences.
Four solutions were implemented for the purposes of this thesis. First, a native Android application with which guides can be viewed. Second, a React web application with which guides can be created. Third, a MongoDB Atlas cloud database to store the guides. Fourth, a Node.js application protocol interface to handle communications between the applications and the database. Together the implemented solutions could be used to create guides consisting of images and pieces of text.
As a result of this thesis, the smart glasses were concluded to suffer from a variety of usability concerns. These concerns were deemed to be inherent to the smart glasses and they restrict all work done with them. While these concerns persist, the use of the smart glasses as a tool for process control and further development of the implemented solutions cannot be recommended.
