The purpose of the study was to examine post-calculation data to find guidelines on how to schedule the work for heavy demolition. Another goal was to determine how the planned schedules meet the execution of the work and, in case of differences, examine the possible reasons for those differences. The study was commissioned by the heavy demolition department of Delete Finland Oy.
The data for this thesis was collected by studying the company’s post-calculation database. The selected data was divided into two groups: small and big buildings. The small buildings were examined solely for the execution of the work by studying the used work hours compared to the amounts of demolition waste. The big buildings were examined both for the execution of the work and for the possible differences between the planned and executed schedules. Further information was collected by shortly interviewing the foremen of the worksites in question.
The results of the study showed, that the excavator hours in smaller buildings show some consistency and can be predicted to some extent. However, all workhours in bigger buildings and the workhours done by hand in small buildings are less consistent and more difficult to predict. It was also found, that there were significant differences between the planned and executed schedules in some cases. Although the differences between the demolition worksites make it difficult to find any precise guidelines for scheduling, this study gives some examples on what to take into consideration when planning the schedule.
