Tutkimus toteutettiin kvantitatiivisena tutkimuksena. Aineiston keruu tapahtui kyselyllä. Kyselyyn osallistuivat kaikki Mäntylinnan vanhainkodin hoitohenkilökuntaan kuuluvat, jotka osallistuvat painehaavojen hoitoon. Kysely toteutettiin e-kyselylomakkeella syyskuussa 2019.
Suurin osa kyselyyn vastanneista koki taitonsa painehaavojen tunnistamisessa ja ennaltaehkäisyssä kohtalaisiksi. Suurin osa vastaajista kertoi tunnistavansa painehaavojen eri asteet osittain.
The purpose of this thesis was to describe the Mäntylinna nursing home's personnel's ability to identify and prevent pressure ulcers. The goal was that the personnel could develop their ulcer detection and prevention skills utilizing the results of this thesis.
The study was conducted as a quantitative study. The data was gathered with a questionnaire. Everyone participating in pressure ulcer treatment in the nursing home took part in the questionnaire. The questionnaire was implemented as an electronic form in September 2019.
The majority of the participants found their ulcer detection and prevention skills moderate. Most of the respondents expressed being able to partly identify the different stages of the pressure ulcers. The importance of proper positioning for preventing the ulceration was known best. The most requirements considering additional training considered the treatment of the pressure ulcers.
The respondents wished for additional training for the detection and treatment of the pressure ulcers. It would be beneficial to implement a clear set of instructions for supporting the staff and the training, and afterwards find out the personnel's experiences considering the instructions.
