Tiivistelmä
Nuoren arki on usein hektistä.
Ennen kyselylomakkeiden jakoa joukkueelle pidettiin aiheesta alkuinfo teoriapohjaan sitoen. Pelaajat vastasivat kyselyyn viikon ajan aamuin illoin, vanhemmat kerran viikon päätteeksi.
Young athlete’s everyday life is hectic. Combining school, hobbies and housework is not always easy. Teenager’s own opinion and feeling about everyday life and how stressful it can be is often unsolved.
The purpose of this thesis was to find out how young athlete copes with everyday life and hobbies using structured questionnaire. This thesis focuses especially on sleep and nutrition from the teenager’s perspective. The aim is to prove that sleep, nutrition and the use of mobile devices influence young athlete’s everyday life. This thesis aims to provoke interest of how young athletes can affect their own stress and how to handle it.
The target group were FC Inter’s B1-junior football team (n=27) and their parents. This thesis consisted of starting info which was held to the team at the beginning of the process. Theoretic framework, how to answer to the questionnaire and the meaning of this thesis were told at the starting info. Based on the theoretic framework and answers from the structured questionnaires the product of this thesis, final seminar, was held.
Fifteen parents and sixteen players answered to the questionnaire. Players answered the questionnaire for one week in the morning and evening (twice a day) and parents once at the end of the week. Based on the answers the final seminar was held to the players, their parents and to the team’s coaches. Main results and the development ideas such as snacks and the quality of them, screen time, eating habits and importance of eating vegetables and drinking proper amount of water during the day were told at the final seminar.
Based on the results, it seems that these young players sleep pretty well and according to the recommendations of nightly sleep (over 8 hours a night). Yet these players still feel themselves stressed during the day. There were a lot of differences within the team what comes to the snack quality and eating habits. Also young players used mobile devices as high as 6 hours a day.
It is clear that more studies like this are needed to support young athlete’s overall well-being. Also monitoring eating and sleeping habits and overall recovery are important to any athlete despite their age. Physiotherapeutic view supports this since it is profession which aims to prevent and develop overall well-being and health as whole.
