Huomioita opinnäytetyötä varten on tehty koko prosessin ajan.
This thesis is functional study about supporting growth as a human being of the 12 – 14-year-old athletes in team sports. The purpose of this study is to help coaches develop their coaching knowledge and understanding about supporting growth as human being while coaching, despite the level of their education or their experience in field. The functional part of this study is meant to be as easy to read and understandable as possible.
Information retrieval and the authors’ coaching experience are the basis of this functional study’s guide. Observations for the thesis have been made all the time during the process. The authors’ aspiration is to combine old and still working methods to newer ideas and thoughts. Information has been collected from sport and physical education sector and other industries such as education theory and developmental psychology.
The importance of human centred coaching and the significance of focusing to support athlete’s growth as human being as a part of the overall development, is well known. Still, this knowledge has not yet stranded to every day coaching on the field. The authors feel that this guide will benefit coaches, who don’t have appropriate education, working at the smaller clubs. This guide is also helpful for coaches, who want to prioritize individualized comprehensive coaching and supporting individual’s growth as human being.
This study also focuses to review all the different roles of coach. The authors want to clarify the requirements of coaching and priorities that everything must be based on, especially when working with this particular age group. As a coach you must understand that coaching is not about you. All your actions and methods must come from the individual needs and abilities of the individuals you are working with. With this age group everything should aim for having fun and getting positive experiences amidst training to enable the birth of love for sports.
