Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyössä pyritään selvittämään, mitä Hollolan Sanomien ja Uuden Lahden lukijat haluavat. Vastauksia haetaan kolmeen eri aihekokonaisuuteen: millaista sisältöä lukijat halutavat, minne he sisältönsä haluavat ja missä muodossa he haluavat sisältönsä. Kaupunkilehtiä on ylipäätänsä tutkittu vähän, joten uuden informaation tuottaminen on tarpeen. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin toimeksiantona Hollolan Sanomille ja Uudelle Lahdelle.
Vastauksia kysymyksiin haettiin verkkopohjaisella kyselytutkimuksella.
The purpose of this thesis is to discover what the readers of Hollolan Sanomat and Uusi Lahti want from their city newspapers. There are three main questions: what kind of content do the readers want, in which platform do they want to read their content and in what form do they want to have said content. Previous reader studies for Hollolan Sanomat and Uusi Lahti ware conducted in 2014. City newspapers haven’t been well studied in Finland, therefore there was a need to get new information. The research was done as a commission for Hollolan Sanomat and Uusi Lahti.
Internet survey was selected as the information gathering method. The survey had multiple choice questions, five-point scale questions and open questions. The questionnaire was advertised in printed editions and on digital editions, internet pages and Facebook pages of Hollolan Sanomat and Uusi Lahti.
The survey found that seventy percent of the respondents regarded locality as a very important attribute of a city newspaper. Respondents wanted local news that feature local people.
The respondents felt that the printed paper format was by far the most important publishing platform. Digital newspapers, websites and especially Facebook pages were considered less important. The same trend was seen when the respondents self-assessed their use of different platforms. Majority of the respondents thought photos were important part of city newspapers. Videos were considered to be less necessary.
Three new questions arose from this thesis. How to get information about younger age groups concerning the questions of this thesis, how can you get them to read city newspapers and how can city newspapers be more relevant on the internet?
