Tiivistelmä
This is the official version.
This thesis was commissioned by ABB’s Protection and Connection unit in Vaasa, Finland. The aim of this thesis was to find out how to make their production planning smoother and to get a better organized stock. The stock levels at ABB had not been updated for a while and they had to produce refill batches to the stock several times a week. With larger stock levels ABB also wanted to investigate whether it would be possible to freeze their production planning for two days and still achieve better lead time.
The data needed for analyzing ABB’s production planning was found in their ERP program, SAP. This data was transferred to Excel to easier access it and since all analyses were made in Excel. Stock and sales data had to be analyzed and by doing a double ABC analysis on the sales data the most important products could be determined. Based on sales data new stock levels could be calculated to last longer.
As a result, ABB’s stock levels and refill batches were updated to last for a week based on average sales history. This allows ABB to have a frozen production planning for two days and still achieve a better median lead time than before since a larger number of orders will be able to be sold directly from stock instead.
