Det här examensarbetet är avsett för alla som är intresserade och/eller vill veta mer om ämnet självmord och korrelationen mellan självmord och polisyrket. Syftet med exa-mensarbetet var att utreda om polisyrket och självmord har något samband. Ett underlig-gande mål var att informera om fenomenet självmord och hur det kan ta sig i uttryck i polisyrket.
Som undersökningsmetod har jag använt mig av en öppen innehållsanalys med styrda forskningsfrågor. Jag arbetade på ett abduktivt sätt med informationsinsamlingen. I teori-delen i min undersökning har jag utgått från olika böcker som behandlar terminologi gällande fenomenet självmord och om poliskulturen och vad som ingår i polisyrket.
Resultatet i min undersökning tyder på att det möjligen kan finnas viss korrelation mellan polisyrket och självmord. Statistiskt sett är siffran låg, men i de anmälningar där poliser begått självmord identifierade jag markörer som kunde korreleras till orsaker varför per-soner begår självmord. This thesis is meant for all who are interested in and/or want to know more about the topic suicide and the correlation between suicide and the police profession. The purpose with this thesis was to analyze if the police profession and suicide have a correlation. An un-derlying goal was to inform about the phenomena suicide and its display in the police profession.
The thesis in based on an open content analysis with controlled research questions. I worked in an abductive way with the collection of the material. I have collected the mate-rial from different sources in the theory division of my thesis that tangents the terminolo-gy of the phenomena suicide and police culture and what the police work contain.
The outcome of my thesis indicates that there is a possible connection between the police profession and suicide. The number low statistically, but in the reports where police offic-ers have committed suicide did I identify indicators that could correlate to causes why people commit suicide.
