Asiasanat: avohuolto, kehittämistyö, lastensuojelu, opas The thesis was conducted as part of the development work in child protection services at Leppävaara Child Protection Services in the Western Uusimaa social area. The background of the work was the need for clear and comprehensive guidelines for conducting child protection home visits. Leppävaara Child Protection Services commissioned the development work, aiming to respond to the needs of social workers and social counselors by providing them with practical tools and guidance to improve the quality of home visits.
The theoretical framework encompassed various aspects of child protection, including the significance of home visits, the processes of service needs, building client relationships, and considering the operating environment of open care. Through interviews with staff, information and insights on the needs and challenges of home visits were gathered. Based on these results, a guide was developed, which includes practical tools like a checklist, and offers different perspectives and suggestions for supporting home visits and improving assessment quality.
The guide serves as a source of information and resource that supports the professionalism and decision-making of the staff during home visits by providing comprehensive guidance and information. An important part of the development work was also defining the responsibility for the guide's further development and updates. Leppävaara Child Protection Services were given the responsibility for updating the guide, ensuring its relevance and effectiveness in the changing needs and practices of child protection work.
