Tiivistelmä
Parisuhde on yksi osa kokonaisvaltaista ikäihmisten hyvinvointia. Ikäihmisten osuus koko väestöstä kasvaa. Ikäihmisten kokema ulkopuolisen tuen tarve parisuhteissa on kasvussa.
Relationship is a part of the comprehensive well-being of elderly individuals. The portion of elderly people in the population is increasing. The need for outside help with the elderly people’s relationships is on the rise. This thesis provides answers to what factors are common to healthy relationships of elderly people and what kind of services meet the needs of the elderly people’s relationships.
The main purpose of this thesis was to find out the factors that strengthen and maintain relationships and what kind of services support the elderly people living in a relationship. The objective of this thesis was to identify the needs of the elderly, share this information with relationship service providers and support the developing of a relationship service network by a customer prototype.
The thesis is a case study. It employed semi-structured interviews, segment-based classification, the Learning café method, network management and customer prototyping. The thesis focused on theories and studies that explain functional relationships and the significance of social interaction skills in relationships.
One of the main findings is that there is no distinct definition for a healthy relationship. Every couple defines a functional relationship in their own way. Another key finding is that there are multiple service providers addressing the needs of elderly individuals, often with overlapping efforts and without awareness of each other. As a result of this thesis, a customer prototype named “Matti and Maija” was developed for the Southern Karelia area. The Matti and Maija customer prototype will be utilized in coordinating the relationship services of the elderly people in a customer focused way while using the resources efficiently.
