This Bachelor’s thesis was reflecting to find the ways to correct erroneous business-critical information and discussed the problematics of data silos. On the other hand, the thesis was trying to open possibilities to create completely new business rule based digital services and thus giving support to eliminate data silos. Methods for creating new services were based on service design and as a practical example this thesis was describing how to design, build and implement spatial database. In addition to creating the spatial database and to achieving theoretical know-how, an important objective of this project has been finding the most suitable tools and processes for handling, storing and utilizing spatial data. The leading thought of this project was creating an environment where maintaining data is effortless and helps with conducting intuitive new digital services.
To achieve the most desirable solution in this project, it has been seen as the best option to get familiarized with theories of cartography, geodesy, and geoinformatics, not to mention the basics of designing web map applications. As a framework to user-centered design, methods of service design and its double diamond model have been utilized. The most crucial method for collecting user feedback has been holding group discussions with different groups of end users. Working on the technical part of this project, the most effective procedures have proven to be agile development methods, the waterfall model, and a combination of these two. Overall benefits were evaluated using NABC criteria.
