Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyön aiheena on saattohoidon toteutuminen eräässä pitkäaikaishoidon yksikössä. Opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on tarkastella, miten hoitajien mielestä saattohoito kyseisessä yksikössä toteutuu.
The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis was to look at the implementation of end of life care in a long-term care unit. The aim is to look at the nurses’ opinions and views.
The thesis was conducted by using a structured questionnaire and it was participated by 12 members of the nursing staff. The theoretical framework includes the following topics: the care path of a hospice patient, the symptoms, the role of the family and the death. The key concepts are end of life care, nursing, pain and long-term treatment.
The results show that there is a need for further treatment and creating common practices. The responses also show that the treatment of an end of life patient is implemented well and the wishes of the patient are listened to.
