Tiivistelmä
Many researchers emphasize the increasing importance of the Internet of Things, the internet-based connection of devices, in relation to business decisions, but there still exists a lack of profound data about decision-making in supply chains that are facing IoT challenges.
The objective of the thesis was to underline, explore and elaborate the influence of the Internet of Things on business decisions especially in supply chain management. In addition, it emphasizes why and how businesses handle transformations. In order to lay a general foundation for the topic, the study was started with defining basic models and approaches, justified with practical examples. All of them were set in the context of IoT and their related impacts. Throughout the study, a critical point of view was maintained.
Qualitative methods, in form of theoretical research, literature review and analysis of 7 business cases, were executed in order to find conclusions about the influence of the Internet of Things transformation among real-life businesses.
The study revealed that decision-making is highly influenced by the Internet of Things in such a way that data is perceived as the significant element. It also showed that entire business models are about to change and there is a great gap for future research that needs to be filled. Rational data are a reliable source, but the final outcome is still highly dependent on the decision-maker.
