The aim of this thesis is to find out if the Åland populations´ opinion is that tourism has an impact and if it has changed the Åland Island as a destination and if it also impacts the locals´ lives. The study is qualitative and it was conducted through controlled deep interviews. Ten people have been interviewed on the basis of whether they work in the tour-ism industry or not, sex and if the where under or over the age of 40. They also had to work and live on the main Island of Åland. The study shows that the locals are very positive to tourism and its impact on the Åland Islands and their personal life. It did not matter if they worked in the tour-ism industry or not, there were more positive opinions than negative opinions about tourism. The study also showed that the locals´ opinion was that the tourism industry is not a big threat to the environmental issues in the surroundings and on Åland Island.
