Many services are today found online, and you can easily perform tasks at home, only by using a computer with an internet connection. Even the less experienced computer users, or those who sometimes find it a bit tricky to use these modern methods, should have the opportunity to take advantage of online services. During the process of this thesis, two websites have been constructed for these people, to serve as a helping guide for their everyday computer and internet usage. One of the keys to learning is an easy-to-use website with accessible information, and to create this platform, the meaning of usability has to be examined. This study takes a deeper look into what usability means, how it can be practically applied, and how the differences in graphical user interfaces affect usability. Two websites with totally different layouts are created, with the usability rules in mind. The first website has no distinctive colors or other graphical items, it has been built to have such a simple design as possible, so that the text and the actual message has a chance to stand out. The second website on the other hand, will have its essential parts highlighted with colors, images and other graphical design. The websites will eventually be tested and compared to each other by a target group, where the people get to do a practical test and fill out forms. The final results have shown that the websites follow an equally high usability standard, but that the people somehow seem to prefer the website with the more characteristic graphical design.
