This thesis is about planning and implementing an event commissioned by AFS Intercultural Programs Finland ry. AFS is an organization that has received and sent youngsters on exchange from and to Finland since 1948. The event is a preparing orientation camp for young people who will go on an exchange and the camp will prepare the youngsters for the exchange. This year, the camp will be renewed and tested with a different base. The thesis deals with the various work processes during the project and the main purpose of the thesis is to plan, implement and evaluate the new version of the preparing orientation camp. The work process is divided into four phases; definition, planning, implementing and evaluating. The work is based on different event planning and project planning theories as for instance Eklund, Matthews and Kilkenny, but also on the event's elements. These elements are based on the Wolf & Wolf's theories and they are what, who, why, where, when and how. These theories serve as the basis for the thesis. The event has been evaluated by a method called open unstructured observation to be able to observe as freely as possible. The event progressed very smoothly and the event was completed without major complications. The results were very good and AFS was happy. AFS will evaluate themselves if the other camps will be held with this new base, and in the evaluation phase and the discussion section I have presented my own improvement suggestions and opinions regarding this.
